Biochar Scientist

The Ithaka Institute is looking for a biochar researcher to complement its international team.

The main subjects of research for the new position are:

  • Organic biochar based fertilization
  • Organic nutrient cycling (animal farming, food residues, AD, plant residues)
  • Biochar – plant – soil interaction
  • Soil organic matter dynamics
  • Biochar design and analytics
  • Project management (carbon farming projects both, in developing countries and in Europe)


The area of activity would mainly be in Zurich. Advanced lab, greenhouse and field facilities are provided.

The applicant should be experienced in project management, proposal writing, trans-disciplinary scientific collaboration and scientific publishing (at least 10 peer reviewed publications with three of them as first author). Practical knowledge in agronomy and working experience in developing aide projects are considered an advantage.

We are looking for an independent, unconventional thinker, practitioner and scientist motivated to develop new carbon strategies and concepts of climate farming.

The job could start in September 2018 or at convenience.
